The story behind the colour

"Wop-Wops" is a New Zealand slang term for a remote, rural area.

Jake's six-month adventure working on a farm situated between Queenstown and Invercargill, New Zealand, was the foundations behind Wop-Wops as you know it today. Having spent time in rural New Zealand exposed to the practical and tough Kiwi workwear, such as the rugged work shirts and Harlequin rugby shorts, and whilst the Kiwi gear was built for durability rather than style, Jake saw an opportunity to infuse fashion into functionality. Drawing inspiration from the colourful and iconic British rugby shirts of the 2000s, he aimed to blend this vibrancy with the resilience of New Zealand's workwear.  This vision laid the groundwork for Wop-Wops Clothing, creating a unique design philosophy that caters to those seeking country attire that's not only reliable but also stylish, combining New Zealand's practicality with the bold aesthetics of early millennium British rugby fashion.

The goal was straightforward yet ambitious: to create clothing that’s as tough and colourful as the landscapes he had come to admire, suitable for both the hard work on the farm and the leisure of town visits.  Our launch product, a bright and durable work shirt, quickly proved there’s a real appetite for apparel that doesn't just serve a practical purpose but also carries a sense of style.

Motivated by this early triumph, Wop-Wops expanded its lineup to include a broader range of work shirts, the sought-after Harlequin shorts, and rugby shirts. These newer offerings blend the traditional aesthetics of UK country fashion with the lively designs characteristic of the 2000s, broadening Wop-Wops' appeal while remaining faithful to its original vision.

Firmly rooted as a family-run business, Wop-Wops has seen its visibility and connection with the country lifestyle community greatly enhanced by participating in major country shows, such as The Game Fair in 2022 and 2023. This family foundation is not just a part of our identity; it's a driving force behind our brand. The active involvement of our family in these events underscores our deep commitment to the brand and its core values. It highlights how our dedication and the passion we share for the brand are integral to our journey towards becoming a recognised name in the country clothing market.

Here at Wop-Wops, we're committed to offering more than just apparel; we're providing a lifestyle choice. It's about merging the rugged with the refined, the durable with the desirable. Our approach is simple: create clothes that live up to the demands of country living while keeping you looking good. That's the promise of Wop-Wops Clothing, where quality meets style, head on.
