Fit Guide

Built to Last – Goodyear Welted Construction

Goodyear welting isn't just fancy shoemaker talk—it's what separates boots you wear for a season from boots you wear for a lifetime. The sole is stitched (not just glued) to the leather upper, so when it's time for a resole years down the road, it's totally doable. These boots can follow you around for decades.

What size should I order?

We recommend ordering your normal whole size—but if you typically wear a half size, you should size down.

If you wear a whole size (like 8, 9, or 10): Order that size. Most customers find their regular sports shoe or dress shoe size fits perfectly.

If you wear a half size (like 8.5, 9.5, or 10.5): Since we don't offer half sizes, we recommend sizing down to the nearest whole size. For example, if you're a 9.5, order a 9.

Why size down? Cowboy boots are meant to fit snugly—especially when new. The leather will stretch and mould to your foot over time, so a secure fit now means a custom fit later. Sizing down ensures you don't end up with boots that feel loose after break-in.

When to size up instead: If you have a high instep, wide feet, or plan to wear very thick socks, you may prefer the next whole size up. But for most customers, sizing down delivers the best fit.

How snug should they feel?

Think of a firm handshake. That's how the boot should feel across the top of your foot.

Not painful: They shouldn't hurt or cut off circulation.

Not loose: Your foot shouldn't slide around inside.

The leather will soften and give over time, so snug now = custom fit later.

My heel slips when I walk. Is that normal?

Yes! This is normal. In fact, it's a good sign.

New cowboy boots have stiff soles. Your heel needs to lift a little (about ¼ inch) so your foot can bend when you walk.

As the boots break in, the sole will flex more and the heel will settle down. If your heel didn't slip at all, the boot would be too short and your toes would be jammed.

Trust the slip. It means you got the right size.
